III. ICT Today

The fusion of hardware equipment, precise software, GUI and effective communicators network is the present composition of ICT network. It refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It is similar to Information Technology (IT), but focuses primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums.


In the past few decades, information and communication technologies have provided society with a vast array of new communication capabilities. For example, people can communicate in real-time with others in different countries using technologies such as instant messaging, voice over IP (VoIP), and video-conferencing. Social networking websites like Facebook allow users from all over the world to remain in contact and communicate on a regular basis.

Proposed by Tim Berners Lee in 1989. A system that enables you to access hypertext documents and other files over the internet. A computer network consisting of a collection of internet sites that offer text and graphics and sound and animation resources through the hypertext transfer protocol.

Web 1.0 - it is a read only web that the main objectives is to share and disseminate information.
Web 2.0 - it is a read and write web that allow the people to edit or comment.
Web 3.0 - it is a semantic executing web that is similar to web 2.0 but in this web more faster than 2.0.


V. Social Media

Social media are web-based communication tools that enable people to interact with each other by both sharing and consuming information.Social media is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration. Websites and applications dedicated to forums, microblogging, social networking , social bookmarking, social curation, and wikis are among the different types of social media.

Here are some prominent examples of social media:

Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. According to statistics from the Nielsen Group, Internet users within the United States spend more time on Facebook than any other website.

Twitter is a free microblogging service that allows registered members to broadcast short posts called tweets. Twitter members can broadcast tweets and follow other users' tweets by using multiple platforms and devices.

VI. Research and Information Seeking

One of the ideal application laid down for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the World Wide Web (WWW) is for research and education since Web 1.0, the main objectives of internet sites are to disseminate information. This will help us to do our work easier, lessen to consume our time and most especially this will helps us to get an information with no more irrelevant information.

There are five information sources over the Internet:

1. WEB SEARCH ENGINES

A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. These are programs designed to search or mine the World Wide Web based on keywords provided by the user. Examples of search engines are Google, bing, Yahoo, Ask.com and many more.

2. RESEARCH INDEXING SITES

This web sites collects, parses, and stores data to facilitate fast and accurate information retrieval and done by academic researchers, engineer and social scientist.



3. MASSIVE ONLINE OPEN COURSE (MOOC)

Is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course, with no limit on attendance and it is dedicated to teach and inform users focused on different areas.

4. EMPLOYMENT WEB SITES

A web sites that deals specifically with employment or careers and designed to allow employers to post job requirements for a position to be filled.

5. ELECTRONIC COMMERCE (E-commerce)

It refers to the purchase and sale of goods and/or services via electronic channels such as the Internet. Electronic commerce operates in all four of the major market segments: business to business, business to consumer, consumer to consumer and consumer to business.
